Unitarity Restoration for the Product of Nonunitary Operators
نویسنده
چکیده
A proof is given that the polar decomposition procedure for unitarity restoration works for products of invertible nonunitary operators. A brief discussion follows that the unitarity restoration procedure, applied to propagators in spacetimes containing closed timelike curves, is analogous to the original introduction by Feynman of ghosts to restore unitarity in non-abelian gauge theories. (The substance of this paper will be a note added in proof to the published version of grqc/9405058, to appear in Phys Rev D.) ∗email: [email protected]

Unitarity restoration in the presence of closed timelike curves.
A proposal is made for a mathematically unambiguous treatment of evolution in the presence of closed timelike curves. In constrast to other proposals for handling the naively nonunitary evolution that is often present in such situations, this proposal is causal, linear in the initial density matrix and preserves probability. It provides a physically reasonable interpretation of invertible nonun...

In any RCFT, each chiral sector Ha (a module of the chiral algebra, i.e. of the vacuum sector H0) has a Hermitian inner product 〈, 〉a, obeying 〈vx, y〉a = 〈x, ω(v)y〉a for x, y ∈ Ha and all v in the chiral algebra V = H0, where ω is an anti-linear anti-involution. In a unitary RCFT, this inner product is in addition positive-definite (i.e. 〈x, x〉 > 0 when x 6= 0). From the point of view of string...
متن کاملIS IT PHYSICALLY SOUND TO ADD A TOPOLOGICALLY MASSIVE TERM TO THREE-DIMENSIONAL MASSIVE ELECTROMAGNETIC OR GRAVITATIONAL MODELS ? ANTONIO ACCIOLY and MARCO DIAS
The addition of a topologically massive term to an admittedly nonunitary three-dimensional massive model, be it an electromagnetic system or a gravitational one, does not cure its non-unitarity. What about the enlargement of avowedly unitary massive models by way of a topologically massive term? The electromagnetic models remain unitary after the topological augmentation but, surprisingly enoug...
متن کاملUnitary solution to a quantum gravity information paradox
We consider a toy model of the interaction of a qubit with an exotic space-time containing a timelike curve. Consistency seems to require that the global evolution of the qubit be nonunitary. Given that quantum mechanics is globally unitary, this then is an example of a quantum gravity information paradox. However, we show that a careful analysis of the problem in the Heisenberg picture reveals...
متن کاملActive Distribution Networks Restoration after Extreme Events
After extreme events such as floods, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes there will be devastating effects in the distribution networks which may cause a partial or complete blackout. Then, the major concern for the system operators is to restore the maximum critical loads as soon as possible by available generation units. In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a restoration s...
